Before taking this class I thought the best way to learn was to open a book and read like I had to when I was in school. After taking this class I have found out that it not only makes it easier to research and learn it is faster, not only for your students but for you as an educator also. The many different technologies put everything in front of you at a touch of a button. This brings back the fun in leaning. As an educator you are not only a person who teaches math, reading, and history, but you are a person who is teaching students the way the world functions. It is not a paper pencil society anymore. As much as I hate to quote commercials I will do so anyway, “it is truly a digital age”.
“We will create lifelong learners, cooperative workers, competent teachers, and critical thinkers willing to adapt to a changing world for the betterment of the larger community.” This statement is a quote from an unknown source (http://thereflectiveteacher.wordpress.com/2006/06/07/statement-of-educational-philosophy/). Our job is to create lifelong learners and they have to be taught and willing to adapt to the changes of society. I think the best way to do this is using technology. I believe each individual student learns at a different pace and each student learns differently. As a teacher you need to know each and every student as best you can. While trying to get to know your students you need to pick up on certain tendencies in their learning process and make sure to integrate these into your strategies. I have no certain one belief on how students learn. I think each student is an individual and they have not just one style but many styles that you as an educator must be willing to adapt to. My only theory is that you try and teach to every student by setting goals and doing your best to reach them each and every day. I believe that you must make sure your students set goals at certain levels, low, medium, and high but not unattainable. My theory is you teach to the success of your students. When success is not met then you reflect and go back to the point where success ended and adapt your teaching style so that success picks up where it left you and the student in question.
As teachers you have no choice but to implement technology into your classroom. I do admit that I was a little scared at first, but once I saw the many ways to do this and the fun the students can have learning the anxiety went away like typewriters. Technology doesn’t just help learning it helps students be creative with their thoughts and teaches the students how to incorporate their creativeness with their learning styles. Technology has become synonymous with learning at every age and it will continue to do so. I intend to embrace technology in my classroom as I embrace my students so that once they walk out my door they have no questions but just answers.
“Well, today we are in the midst of another revolution. Whether we call it the information revolution or the technology revolution or the digital revolution: the fact remains that the new tools becoming available are now rapidly changing the way we work, the way we teach, and the way we learn. In short, technology is revolutionizing our lives, our society, and our world. And we simply cannot afford to sleep through this revolution.” This is quote from Vice President Al Gore. I think he summed it up quite well. We as educators cannot afford to fall behind on the times. We must embrace it so that our future will embrace it as well.
