History Standard:
The student uses a working knowledge and understanding of significant individuals, groups, ideas, events, eras, and developments in the history of Kansas, the United States, and the world, utilizing essential analytical and research skills.
Benchmark 2:
The student uses a working knowledge and understanding of individuals, groups, ideas, developments, and turning points in the era of the Great Depression through World War II in United States history (1930-1945).
6. (K) discusses how World War II influenced the home front (e.g.,women in the workplace, rationing, role of the radio in communicating news from the war front, victory gardens,
Conscientious objectors).
The students will follow a power point presentation for class notes discussing the role that propaganda played on influencing United States citizens. Several images of propaganda will be used so that each student can study these posters so that they may understand what each image illustrates. Each student will also decide the reasoning behind the photos.
Each student will research propaganda posters used during WWII by using three separate days inside the computer lab for research purposes.
Each student will take prior knowledge of the recent war in which the United States is involved in and create their own propaganda porter, which will be shared as an oral presentation. Each presentation will be accompanied with a one page paper describing the propaganda used and how it will affect society.
Technologies:
1. World Wide Web-for research purposes to find different types of propaganda used
2. imovie-Students can use this software to create a commercial instead of drawing a poster. Students will be put into small groups so that they can work together to come up with creative ideas.
3. power point-Students can use a power point presentation instead of writing a paper explaining their ideas and reasons for choosing certain propaganda.
Students will need access to computers and the internet. Students will need access to power point software and imovie software to complete the task at hand. Students will need a flash drive or e-mail access to save and send presentations to the teacher for oral presentation in class.
The teacher will need to be familiar with imovie software to help students crop their videos for time restraints. The teacher will need to familiarize the students with power point also.
The students will be given a page of notes explaining the policies of plagiarism. The student should be given a crash course on how to research web sites to ensure the web sites are relevant to the material they need.
The students will use creative thinking skills as well as research skills while doing their projects. The students will familiarize themselves with new software. The students will know the difference between the periods of today and the 1940’s by comparing their ideas to those of
